I don't know about you, but I tend to let myself get so stressed when things aren't going according to plan...I'm slowly learning to go with the flow, and I'm trying to enjoy and embrace the chaos that I'm sure I'll soon miss as my kids grow. It has definitely been a learning experience for me, and one that sparked the idea of weekend planning.
Now, although my perfect little plans for each day are usually compromised by mid-morning, one thing that I have decided to do is organize our lives as much as I can over the weekend so I can be prepared for anything that the week throws at me. I have tried it these past few weekends, and it made for a much easier start to the week. I know as mothers we do a lot of these things every day and we're constantly cleaning and tidying up, but there is just something so nice and refreshing about starting each week with a clean (literally) slate!
Here are some things to do over the weekend to help you feel prepped and ready for your upcoming week:
1) Do all the laundry.
I don't know why, but I LOVE seeing all of our laundry baskets EMPTY! I mean, I love it so much!! It doesn't last long, but it feels so great starting the week with zero dirty clothes.
2) Wash all the sheets.
I wash all of our sheets and the bedding from the kids' rooms. Everyone starts their week with fresh and clean sheets and blankets. :)
3) Empty all trash cans.
I used to always forget about the trash cans upstairs, but now everything is empty and ready for Monday's trash day.
4) Stock up on groceries.
My husband usually stays home with the babies for a little while on Saturday or Sunday so I can go to the store to stock up on our food and necessities for the week.
5) Clean all dishes.
Wash dishes, load, run, and unload dishwasher to get ready for Monday.
6) Wipe down kitchen/bathroom countertops.
I recently put containers of Clorox wipes and extra rags under the sink in the kitchen and in all of our bathrooms, and that makes it so easy to clean and disinfect all of the countertops, faucets, sinks, etc.
7) Get coffee ready for Monday morning.
I never realized how big of a difference this makes. My parents do this every night, and I got the idea from them. Now, no matter how wild my kids are at the crack of dawn, at least I'll have a cup of coffee in hand to help get me through it. ;)
8) Plan outfits for the week.
This is really beneficial for my daughter on the days that she goes to school. I have her outfits ready in a drawer downstairs, so that makes it much easier to get her dressed and out the door on time.
9) Prep for workouts.
I have recently started working out with my husband in the mornings, and I've found that I'm much more pleasant at that hour if I have my clothes, shoes, weights, water bottle, etc. prepped and ready to go.
10) Check calendar and finalize to-do list.
I constantly have a to-do list running through my head, but now I write everything down on Sunday before I go to bed. I keep my calendar on my desk with my to-do list right beside it for easy access.
Doing each of these things every weekend has really helped prepare my household for the week. I hope these tips help you, too!!
